Elmer Richard Sims

Elmer Richard Sims (born July 1, 1883 in Crockett , Texas , † November 17, 1973 in Austin , Texas) was an American Romanist and Hispanist .

Life

Sims was a Latin teacher first. He founded a Presbyterian high school in Cárdenas (Cuba) and directed it from 1908 to 1913. Further educational activities took him to Batesville (Arkansas) until 1916 . Then came the turn to science. In 1916 he went to the University of Texas at Austin as a student and instructor for Spanish . In 1926 he received his doctorate in Chicago with the work (ed.) La segunda parte de la vida de Lazarillo de Tormes, sacada de las coronicas antiguas de Toledo por Juan de Luna castellano, interprete de la lengua española (Austin, Texas 1928). He continued to teach in Austin, most recently as a professor, until his retirement in 1953.

Sims edited the University of Texas Hispanic Studies series with Miguel Romera-Navarro .
