Batesville is a town in Independence County in the US -amerikanischen State Arkansas with 9,500 inhabitants ( 2004 ) and the seat of the County administration ( County Seat ). The urban area has a size of 27.5 km².
Batesville is the second oldest city in Arkansas and was named after James Woodson Bates . The first settlement in what is now Batesville began in 1810. The place was registered as a city on September 25, 1839. The local Lyon College provides further education .
