Elsa Fischer-Treyden

Elsa Fischer-Treyden (* 1901 in Moscow ; † 1995 in Selb ) was a German product designer of Russian origin.

Live and act

Fischer migrated to Berlin in 1918. There she studied between 1923 and 1932 at the United State Schools of Fine and Applied Arts . She initially designed and manufactured unique products, especially bowls and vases made of bronze and ceramics.

In 1948 and 1949 she studied industrial design with Wilhelm Wagenfeld at the Berlin University of the Arts . She then worked as a freelance designer for Villeroy & Boch , but also designed tea sets made from Jena glass . From 1952 she worked as one of the central designers for Rosenthal AG . For the Studio line, she first developed the “Fortuna” program with glasses and porcelain and later the “Favo” ceramic program. The “Fuga” glass series, which is inspired by the natural shape of the tulip, was awarded the German Federal Prize Die gute Form . Until the 1990s she designed or revised for Rosenthal. So she designed vessel shapes such as B. the cushion vases served as a carrier for artist decors such as Vasarely . She also worked as a trainer for Rosenthal.

Her works are exhibited in the Porzellanikon in Selb, the Museum of Modern Art , the Dallas Museum of Art and the Corning Museum of Glass , among others .
