Elsbeth Sigmund (born October 25, 1942 in Winterthur ) is a Swiss teacher who became known as the child actress of the fictional character Heidi in the 1950s.

Life

Elsbeth Sigmund was born in Winterthur in 1942. As a ten-year-old, the girl, who was living in Kemptthal at the time, prevailed against 2000 other candidates cast by director Luigi Comencini for the lead role in the planned Heidi film from 1952. Her portrayal of the character Heidi in the film of the same name was convincing and the strip is still considered the best Heidi film adaptation to this day . A year later she took on the role of Heidi in the German film Frühlingslied (in the Swiss German dialect version as ' s Vreneli vom Eggisberg ). The German title was: Heidi and her friends , whereby the plot was in no way related to the novel by Johanna Spyri. She played her last role in 1955 in Heidi and Peter , a sequel to her first film. Even Thomas Klameth as Geissenpeter and Heinrich Gretler as a grandfather who held these roles in the first film were just like most other actors of the first film again with it.

After her leading role in the three Heidi films of the 1950s, she gave up acting, became a teacher and taught for 39 years. She lives with her husband in Winterthur in the canton of Zurich . Even childless, explained Elsbeth Sigmund: "My children were my students."
