Else Frølich , also Else Frölich , née Eli Maria "Else" Thaulow , married Else Sandberg , (born August 31, 1880 in Oslo - Vestre Aker , Norway ; † September 15, 1960 in Copenhagen , Denmark ) was a Norwegian-Danish actress and Singer and a celebrated star of early Danish silent films .

Life

Work on stage and film

The daughter of the Norwegian painter Johan Frederik Thaulow (1847–1906) and the Danish Ingeborg Charlotte Gad received her artistic training (in singing) in Paris . Immediately after the turn of the century she began to sing and play on stage and was particularly successful in operettas. With the title role in Franz Lehár's The Merry Widow , she achieved her breakthrough in 1907 at the Oslo National Theater. Else Frølich celebrated one of her greatest successes in 1909 in Leo Falls The Dollar Princess , which she played several hundred times both in Denmark (Det Ny Teater in Copenhagen) and in Norway. Her partner there was the well-known Danish actor Poul Reumert .

In 1911, Else Frølich was featured as a new movie star by Copenhagen-based Nordisk Film and featured in numerous leading roles in leading productions of this most important Danish production company. In the following six years, Nordisk built Else Frølich as a film vamp with seductive femme fatale roles, and most recently she also received more differentiated roles. Before the end of the First World War , her film career was over again, but some films (including those with her colleague Valdemar Psilander, who died in early 1917 ) were shown in Danish cinemas until 1919/20 and also found their way into German cinemas.

Private

Eli Thaulow called herself Else Frølich or Else Frölich since her marriage (1903) to the opera singer Louis de la Cruz Frølich (1872-1952), whom she had met in Paris. After their divorce, she married the Danish film director Anders Wilhelm Sandberg (1887–1938) on October 4, 1916 . After her marriage to Sandberg, Else Frølich turned her back on acting. In 1919 she became the mother of a son, the later comedy film producer Henrik Thaulow Sandberg (1919-1993). In 1960 Else Frølich was buried in Copenhagen as Else Sandberg.
