Else Giese

Elisabeth "Else" Giese (born April 30, 1884 in Borbeck ; † February 20, 1950 in Bottrop ) was a German teacher and politician ( center ).

Life

After graduating from elementary school, Giese attended the higher girls' school in Borbeck and the Oberlyzeum in Aachen . Subsequently, she completed the teachers' seminar and in 1905 passed the examination as a teacher for elementary schools and high schools. She first taught at the Lyceum of the Sisters of Armen Kinde Jesu in Düsseldorf , continued her education from 1906 with studies abroad and a private seminar in Vallendar and from 1908 worked as a teacher at the teacher’s seminar and upper lyceum in Bottrop. In addition to her professional activity, she was chairwoman of the Association of Commercial Assistants in Borbeck from 1914 to 1919, and since 1917 chairwoman of the Catholic German Women's Association (KFDB) in Bottrop and a member of the Reich Advisory Board for German Schools Abroad. During the First World War , she also worked as a state-certified helper for the Red Cross .

Giese was a board member of the local political association of the Center Party. In 1919 she became a city councilor in Bottrop and was a member of the Prussian state constitutional assembly from September 15, 1920 to 1921 . In 1921 she was elected as a member of the Prussian state parliament. From 1928 to 1933 she was also a member of the state parliament presidium. With the dissolution of the corporation by the National Socialists on October 14, 1933, it left parliament.

After the National Socialists came to power , Giese was dismissed from school as a senior high school teacher. In August 1944, she was arrested as part of the " Operation Grid " and imprisoned for four months. After 1946 Giese was a lecturer at the adult education center in Bottrop.
