history

In 1971 Ulrich Freise, Hartmut Hoffmann and Thomas Ziebarth met Lutz Berger, Barbara Grosse and Diethard Hess after a trip to India in Heidelberg. They founded the band Elster Silberflug and settled in Heidelberg . They undertook numerous tours in the Federal Republic of Germany. In 1976 the long-playing record Ich fahr dahin , which had already been recorded in 1974, was released. In 1977 the album Komm in my Rosengarten was released, which was produced in 1976. Most of the pieces on the albums are melodically arranged folk songs from the 19th century, some songs composed by yourself or from other eras. In the 1970s, a book of songs by the band was also published as "Grüner Zweig 27".

In 1978 the group was dissolved. From then on, some played with the newly founded Bernies Autobahn Band , while the other musicians continued to make folk-oriented music at the turn of the century .

Since 1988 there is a band called Elster Silberflug again. Musicians Holger Funke , Dorle Ferber and Christian Vogel were new members of the group . The cast in 2007 includes Barbara Grosse-Freise, Ulrich Freise and Dorle Ferber. The band now mainly plays music from the Middle Ages or self-composed pieces of this style. The group can often be seen at medieval markets. Moritz Freise occasionally appears as a guest musician .

Five more albums have been released since 1988, one of which is a re-release of songs from the 1970s.

style

Typical for the group are melody and vocal German-language songs that are played with a variety of instruments. While the focus in the 1970s was on 19th century music, often with a romantic character, since 1988 pieces based almost exclusively on medieval music have been played.
