Bernies Autobahnband - also written as Bernie's Autobahnband - was a German folk band .

history

The group was founded in 1976 by former members of the dissolved Elster Silberflug and the Good Company duo (Bernie Conrads and Bernhard Schumacher). Head and lead singer of the band highway was in Franconia living singer , guitarist and songwriter Bernhard "Bernie" Conrad. The German-language songs and some purely instrumental pieces of the group can best be assigned to the folk music style, but at the time also attracted a lot of attention outside the songwriting scene around groups such as Liederjan , Zupfgeigenhansel or Ougenweide . From this time I remembered the titles HR3 good morning wishes, The way it pays me and The old professor .

The partly politically motivated, partly thoughtful and often deeply witty songs were voiced alongside Bernie Conrads (vocals, guitar, violin ) in 1977 : Bernhard Schumacher ( flute , flugelhorn , trombone , mandolin , percussion , vocals), Lutz Berger (guitar, mandolin) , Violin) and Hartmut Hoffmann (mandolin, guitar, percussion, violin, vocals). In 1978 the line-up lists the first three named Bruno Schaab, who played bass and percussion and sang. On the album Ohne Filter , Stefan Stoppok played electric or acoustic guitar on some tracks.

Later work by Bernie Conrads

After the group broke up in 1989, Conrads continued to write texts and songs, among others for Stefan Stoppok , Peter Maffay and Erich Schmeckenbecher . Almost all of the lyrics on the LP Maffay 96 and most of the pieces on Stefan Stoppok's productions were written by Conrads . In 2005 the Autobahn band held four reunion concerts. Conrads has also been working with the musicians of the Pankraz group from Dresden as Bernie Conrads & Pankraz since 2005 . The album Three Bottles of Moonlight was released . In 2008 the Bernie Conrads CD Irgendwo dahinten was released, on which Conrads' former Good Company and Autobahnband colleague Bernhard Schumacher and friends Danny Dziuk and Stefan Stoppok again played.

Bernie Conrads characterizes his songs as "honey for lovers, ointment for the disappointed and flashlights for those searching on cellar stairs."
