Erich Schmeckenbecher (born March 31, 1953 in Stuttgart ) is a German musician , singer and songwriter . He plays guitar , mandolin , Irish bouzouki , accordion and harmonica .

Life

From 1974 onwards, together with Thomas Friz, Schmeckenbecher became known as the successful folk and folk song duo Zupfgeigenhansel . By 1985, Zupfgeigenhansel had published nine long-playing records, two song books and sold over a million records. After Zupfgeigenhansel was dissolved in 1985, Schmeckenbecher u. a. as a studio musician and producer. The idea of combining folk music and rock music led to the founding of the short-lived band project Erich und das Polk in 1992 .

After the separation from Erich and the Polk , Schmeckenbecher worked as a solo artist and released his own CD in 2001 under the title Schmeckenbecher . In the same year he was the founder of the Association for Humanity and Tolerance eV (MUT) , whose first chairman he also became. In December 2004 Schmeckenbecher celebrated its 30th stage anniversary with a performance under the motto “Life is poetry” and with guests from the folk and songwriting scene, among others. a. Hannes Wader , Konstantin Wecker and Klaus Lage , was committed in the Theaterhaus Stuttgart. The four-hour concert recording was later released as a 4-CD set. In 2007 he released his CD Schmeckenbecher 2007, which was based on “Heimat” and “Romantik” .

In addition to his own songs, Schmeckenbecher as a composer mainly set poems from classics such as Heine , Goethe , Schiller , Eichendorff , Novalis , Fritz Graßhoff and Theodor Kramer (including Andre, who did not love the country so much ). His folk song text settings ( A proud ship , don't ask anyone to hear my fate, etc.) are folk standards today and, like many of his settings, can be found in numerous song books.

His songs with texts commissioned by authors such as Steffen Mensching , Diether Dehm , Hans-Eckardt Wenzel , Claire Beyer , Horst Dillmann , Klaus Lage , Bernie Conrads and others are also well received. v. a. as well as his completely own songs.
