Emanuel Backhaus

Emanuel Backhaus (born June 17, 1884 in Bremen , † November 28, 1958 in Munich ) was a German lawyer , politician ( NSDAP ) and president of the Bremen citizenship.

biography

Backhaus was the son of a liberal businessman. He graduated from the old grammar school by 1903 and then studied law at the University of Kiel , the University of Berlin and the University of Bonn . He received his doctorate as Dr. jur. and then worked as a lawyer in Bremen. He joined the NSDAP and became a member of the Bremen Citizenship on November 30, 1930 , Vice President on May 8, 1931 and President of the Citizenship on October 23. In an open letter to Adolf Hitler on October 21, 1932, he complained about the rowdy behavior of his party members in the bourgeoisie, about the party's brutal striving for power and its arbitrariness, resigned his office and left the NSDAP. His political career ended and he was back working as a lawyer and notary. He later moved to Munich. From 1945 to 1946 he was a member of the Munich City Council .

  • The Emanuel-Backhaus-Straße in Obervieland was named after him in 1968.
