Emanuel Vasiliu

Emanuel Kant Vasiliu (born September 7, 1929 in Chișinău , † August 19, 2001 in Bucharest ) was a Romanian linguist, Romany scholar and Romanist .

life and work

Emanuel Vasiliu received his doctorate in 1956 with the thesis Accentul în limba română . From 1964 to 1965 and from 1970 to 1971 he was visiting professor in Chicago and Boston. In 1970 he became a professor at the University of Bucharest (from 1990 to 1992 dean of the Philosophical Faculty). From 1990 to 2001 he was director of the Institute of Phonetics and Dialectology of the Romanian Academy .

Vasiliu was a full member of the Romanian Academy from 1992.
