Ematheudes punctella is a small butterfly from the family of the borer (Pyralidae).

features

The wingspan of the moth is about 22 mm. The forewings have a light brown basic color and have several black spots and brownish longitudinal streaks. A hem runs along the wing edges. The white hind wings have a dark hemline.

distribution

The species occurs in southern Europe and the Mediterranean area. Their distribution area extends from Morocco in North Africa, over the Iberian Peninsula , southern France, Corsica, Italy, Sicily and Greece to Asia Minor , Cyprus and the Middle East . There is individual evidence from Central Europe (Belgium, Czech Republic).

Way of life

The butterflies can be seen from late May to September. You can find the butterflies in different habitats (meadows, open bush vegetation, at the roadside and in parks). They are attracted to artificial light sources. The host plants of the borer species are still unknown.

Taxonomy

The species was first described by Georg Friedrich Treitschke in 1833 as Chilo punctella Treitschke , in 1833.
