Emeril John Lagasse (born October 18, 1959 in Fall River , Massachusetts ) is an American chef , restaurant owner and cookbook author . He became known for his cooking shows, which are broadcast on the Food Network .

biography

Beginnings

Emeril Lagasse was born in Fall River, Massachusetts in 1959 to a Canadian from Québec and a Portuguese woman. He discovered his culinary talents while helping out in a bakery as a teenager. He decided to become a chef and attended Johnson & Wales University's College of Culinary Arts . When he was working in the restaurant “Venus De Milo” while studying, he met his first wife, Elizabeth Kief. Lagasse graduated in 1978, and the college later awarded him an honorary doctorate.

Career start

Lagasse's career began as head chef at the famous American gourmet restaurant Commander's Palace in New Orleans . In 1990 he left the Commander's Palace and opened his first own restaurant Emeril's , also in New Orleans , which was voted Restaurant of the Year by Esquire magazine in the year it opened. His favorite cuisine is Cajun - and Creole cuisine , which he helped to spread.

TV star

Lagasses success as a TV chef started with a mission that turned to cooking Inexperienced and the title How to boil water - How to water boils wore. It first went on air in 1993. After appearing in several other shows, he received his own cooking shows titled The Essence of Emeril (1994) and Emeril Live (1997). As Essence he here refers to his spice blends, which he has created himself. Emeril Lagasse recommends that viewers create their own mixes that reflect their personal style.

In the US, Emeril Lagasse is known for being laid back and using repetitive expressions like BAM! , Kick it up a notch , Feel the love and Oh yeah, babe that he often uses when trying a dish that he just seasoned.
