Emery Blades (born June 3, 1928 in Hamilton , Ohio ) is an American rockabilly musician .

Life

Childhood and youth

Blade's parents were both from Kentucky . The family often visited their relatives there, who were all musically talented and played old-time music that influenced Blades. Another huge influence was the Grand Ole Opry , which broadcast every Saturday night from Nashville , Tennessee . During high school , Blades mainly listened to swing , but later switched back to country .

Career

Blades married in 1950 and began playing guitar and writing songs. He played with friends privately or at parties and composed his first two pieces in the mid-1050s, I'm Leaving You the Key to My Heart and The Rock 'n' Roll Carpenter . The record label Ruby Records had just opened in Hamilton, Ohio, and Blades introduced itself to owner Larry Short. He gave short demo tapes of his first two songs, which he recorded with Orville Andrews (guitar), Clyde Markham ( electric guitar ) and Wayne Hargreaves (steel guitar) and Adrian Cann ( bass ). Without hesitation, Short released the tapes on his Ruby label. The band was christened The Rural Rhythm Boys .

After that, another Emerson single was released by Ruby. While the B-side Your Broken Hearted List came from the session with the Rural Rhythm Boys, Look What You Done to Me was a recording from Larry Short's studio with musicians from the studio band, the Rainbow Rhythmaires , and musicians from Blades 'own band was formed. Despite the efforts of Shorts, both singles did not get beyond regional success. The third single, recorded in a studio in Chicago , could not make itself felt nationally either. In 1960 Blades recorded a single for Jimmie Skinner's label Arvis Records, which also received little attention. Blades also wrote some songs for Skinner's label.

Blades made his last recordings in 1981 for his gospel album. These days, Blades continues to perform with the Country Legends or in the church at the local level. His songs have been re-released several times since 1977. He was also inducted into the Rockabilly Hall of Fame .
