Emil (comic strip)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The comic strip Emil was published fortnightly from 1983 to 1990 in the Berlin city magazine Zitty .

The comic strip figure, created in 1983 by the illustrator Detlef Surrey , reflected in its stories the attitude towards life of the West Berlin and West German alternative movements with their themes of ecology, peace, squatter and women's movements. Originally drawn in the style of the American underground comics, Surrey changed the four-picture strips from 1983 in the style of Ligne Claire . The figure underwent a second stylistic and narrative change in 1988, with the same name. In 1991, Surrey finished the strip in both Zitty and AKKU , where Emil appeared weekly.
