Emil Bergander

Emil Bergander (born September 24, 1894 , † September 24, 1980 in Berlin ) was a German fermentation chemist and university professor .

Life

Bergander worked between 1935 and 1953 as the technical manager of the Dresden yeast factory and the Bramsch grain distillery. In 1953 he took over the management of the central laboratory founded in 1950 for the yeast, alcohol, spirits and wine industries of the GDR . At the same time he became a lecturer for yeast and alcohol technology at the Agricultural and Horticultural Faculty of the Humboldt University of Berlin (HUB); He played a key role in the fact that the distillery course was resumed at the HUB.

In 1959 he completed his habilitation with a study on the biochemistry and technology of yeast . In 1960 he received a professorship and became head of the biochemistry department at the Institute for Fermentation Chemistry and Agricultural Technology at the HUB. In 1963 he was retired; Gundolf Ströhmer took over his chair .
