history

In the 19th century, Gdańsk shipbuilding formed into corporations and partnerships. This was preceded by a decline due to the Prussian blockade of the port between 1772 and 1793.

The most important companies were initially the Royal Shipyard Danzig, founded in 1854 (since 1871 Imperial Shipyard Danzig ) and the JW Klawitter shipyard . In 1890 the Schichau shipyard in Gdansk was built, which by 1945 developed into the largest shipyard in Gdansk. The successor company of the Kaiserliche Werft was the Danziger Werft und Eisenbahnwerkstätten AG in 1919 .

After the end of the Second World War , the shipyards between Gdansk and Stettin were combined under the Zjednoczenia Stoczni Polskich (United Polish Shipyards) . In 1945 there were eleven shipbuilding, repair and mechanical engineering companies called shipyards ( Stocznia in Polish ) under this roof . The two largest Gdansk shipyards became independent in 1950 as Stocznia Gdańska (1967–1990 German Gdansk Shipyard - Lenin Shipyard ), as did the Stocznia Północna (North Shipyard) . The latter came under the umbrella of Remontowa Holding in 2011 . The youngest shipyards in Gdańsk are Maritim Shipyard and Sunreef Yachts, founded in 1992 and 2002 .

The F. Schichau AG was established in April 1945 after Bremerhaven laid. In 1972 it merged into Schichau Unterweser AG (SUAG) and in 1988 into Schichau Seebeck shipyard , which existed until 1996.
