Gundolf Ströhmer (born October 7, 1930 in Bautzen ) is a German fermentation chemist and emeritus professor .

Life

In 1949 Ströhmer obtained his Abitur in Bautzen; then he trained as a distiller at VEB Grüneberger Spirituosen . From 1953 to 1956 he studied distillery at the Agricultural and Horticultural Faculty of the Humboldt University in Berlin (HUB). He completed his studies as a qualified distillery engineer. In the following years he gained practical experience in the fermentation and spirits industry as well as at the Academy of Agricultural Sciences in Dresden and corresponding research institutions. In 1962 he received his doctorate as an agricultural scientist with studies on the chromatographic identification of flavorings in spirits at the Humboldt University in Berlin.

From October 1962 he was a research assistant at the Institute for Fermentation Chemistry and Technology (IfG) at the HUB. From 1963 to 1968 he took over the management of the biochemistry department of the IfG from Emil Bergander . As a university lecturer, he represented the teaching areas of raw materials, alcohol, spirits, wine / sparkling wine technology and the technology of non-alcoholic beverages as well as the associated process and quality control. In 1969 he took over the chair. The main research areas in collaboration with the spirits industry were education and analysis of the aromas of alcoholic beverages, processes for the maturation of spirits and the development of sensors for quality testing.

With the merger of the fermentation science facilities of the HUB with the West Berlin facilities, Ströhmer also took on teaching activities for the TU Berlin in 1992 . From 1996 he was also involved in the training of distillers and master distillers at the Research and Training Institute for Spirit Manufacture (VLSF). In 2019 he became editor of the handbook on spirits technology originally developed by Hermann Wüstenfeld and Georg Haeseler at the Institute for Fermentation Trade .
