Emil Fitger
Emil Fitger (born December 15, 1848 in Delmenhorst ; † April 9, 1917 in Bremen ) was a Bremen businessman, editor-in-chief of the Weser newspaper and a member of the Bremen citizenship .
biography
Fitger was born as the son of the postmaster and Delmenhorst innkeeper Peter Diedrich Fitger († 1865) and his wife Clara Maria Caroline born. Plate used Dorny († 1891) born. Fitger attended the Rector's School in Delmenhorst and the Commercial School in Bremen . He initially worked as a businessman. In 1878 he moved to the editorial office of the Weser newspaper in Bremen and in 1886 became editor-in-chief of this politically- mercantile commercial paper from Schünemann Verlag . With a liberal economic approach, he led the newspaper to international significance and was its editor-in-chief until 1917. In 1906 he was also a co-founder of the Lower Saxony Press Association in Hanover, in which his newspaper was represented.
As a representative of the 2nd class he became a member of the Bremen citizenship in the Bremen 8th class suffrage in 1879 and was on this committee until his death in 1917. He was friends with the Reich Chancellor (1900–1909) Bernhard von Bülow .
He was the brother of the painter and writer Arthur Fitger and the uncle of the painter Hermann Fitger (1891–1986).
The Fitgerstraße in Bremen- Schwachhausen was named after him.
