Emil Koch (born June 18, 1857 in Dresden , † July 15, 1921 in Bad Elster ) was a German classical philologist and high school teacher.

Life

Emil Franz Robert Koch attended the Kreuzschule in Dresden and from 1877 studied classical philology at the University of Leipzig (with Otto Ribbeck and Justus Hermann Lipsius ). After the death of his father he had to interrupt his studies for a few years, so that he did not take the state examination until 1884. He then worked as a trial candidate at the Royal High School Dresden-Neustadt , from 1885 as a scientific assistant teacher there. On February 1, 1890 he was appointed permanent senior teacher. As early as Easter 1890 he moved to the grammar school in Zittau , where he was appointed senior teacher in 1891. On July 28, 1896 he was promoted to Dr. phil. PhD . In 1905 he was appointed grammar school professor, in 1915 a teacher, later a senior teacher and in 1920 deputy principal. He died on July 15, 1921 in Bad Elster .

In addition to the school service, Koch was scientifically active. He wrote writings on regional history and Greek legal history. His dissertation on various Attic offices (1894) was well received by the professional world. Subsequently, he wrote several articles for the Realencyclopadie der classical antiquity (RE).
