Emil Richter (bank manager)

Emil Richter (born July 22, 1897 in Stolp , † October 20, 1960 in Feldbach ) was a German savings bank director.

biography

Richter was the son of a master baker. He completed the upper secondary school in Stolp and an apprenticeship at the Sparkasse in Stolp until 1914 and in Gelsenkirchen until 1915 . During the First World War , he served as a soldier from 1916 to 1918. He then worked for various savings banks. In 1925 he became head of department at Girozentrale Hannover ( Nord / LB ), in 1928 director of Stadtsparkasse Hameln and in 1934 head of Bausparkasse Bremen . Here he was soon a general representative of the board.

After the Second World War , he succeeded Oskar Lüpke as the first director of Sparkasse Bremen in 1945 and from 1950 chairman of the board (later general director). He successfully expanded the building society system . He was a co-founder of the Hanseatic Reconstruction Community and was also of great importance in the reconstruction of Bremen .

Thanks to the Sparkasse, he succeeded in rebuilding a number of historical buildings such as houses no. 11 and 12 ( Raths-Apotheke , Sparkasse) on Bremen's market square , the Stadtwaage in Langenstrasse and the commercial building. The Sparerdank Foundation was created through his initiative and built 369 apartments for needy citizens.

In July 1960, he resigned from the board due to illness. Kurt Vesper and Adolf Spelsberg followed him after his death in 1960 in the Sparkasse management.
