Emil Schulthess (photographer)
Emil Schulthess (born October 29, 1913 in Zurich ; † January 22, 1996 in Maur ) was a Swiss photographer .
After training as a graphic designer, he carried out the graphic design for the magazine Du and the Manesse Library of World Literature at Conzett & Huber in Zurich from 1937 to 1957 .
The 24-part series of images about the midnight sun , which he realized in June 1950 in northern Norway, made him known internationally with its publication in Life magazine on July 30, 1951. As Art Director of the Swissair calendar, he was responsible for its design from 1951 to 1990. From 1957 he worked as a freelance photographer and author. In 1958 he accompanied a team from the United States Antarctic Program to Antarctica. To thank him for his documentary work, the Schulthess Buttress Kliff is named after him.
