Emil Würmli

Emil Würmli (born March 3, 1920 in Gommiswald ; † November 6, 2007 in Basel ) was a Swiss military trumpeter , conductor , music publisher and composer .

His most important own composition is the march “A happy reunion”. According to his own account, he composed this melody during his working hours as a border guard .

Having grown up in the Gommiswald, Emil Würmli first learned to play the accordion - and then to play the trumpet . Thanks to his father, who was the conductor of the “Alpenrösli” music association, he was allowed to play there as a teenager. After completing compulsory schooling, he learned the profession of hairdresser . He graduated from recruit school as a trumpeter. In 1939 he composed the march for the Mountain Rifle Battalion 8 . On a second educational path, he trained as a border guard in Liestal from 1944 . Since 1946 he has been in the service of the police, most recently as a detective corporal at the youth prosecutor's office in Basel-Stadt. His musical career took him to various music associations and brass bands, some of which he also conducted. In total, Würmli wrote more than 140 compositions.

As a trumpeter he played in the Stadtmusik Basel , in the customs and police music and he was a co-founder of the Rhybuebe band .

Würmli was awarded the Golden Part in 1982 by the TellRecord record company and Swiss television awarded him the Prix ​​Part in 1990 .

Würmli had been married to Lisa Fürer († February 7, 2007) since 1945 and he had lived in Riehen since 1952 .
