Emile Dottrens

Emile Dottrens , also Émile Dottrens (* July 21, 1900 , † September 29, 1990 ) was a Swiss ichthyologist and conservationist .

Life

In 1942 Dottrens became a research assistant in the department of zoology at the Muséum d'histoire naturelle de la Ville de Genève . From 1953 to 1969 he was director of the museum. Dottrens was a member of the IUCN , the Swiss nature conservation organization Pro Natura and the Société de Physique et d'Histoire Naturelle de Genève . During his term of office as President of the International Commission for the Protection of the Alps, CIPRA, from 1960 to 1968, he campaigned for the Council of Europe to recognize this association as a non-governmental organization .

Emile Dottrens wrote several scientific articles on the Swiss freshwater fish fauna, in particular on the Coregonus genus .
