Emile Rampelberg

Emile Rampelberg (born October 26, 1911 , † August 29, 2001 in Paris ) was a French textile designer and painter .

Emile Rampelberg was born in Flanders and lived in Paris from 1918 . From 1939 he worked as a textile designer. In 1942 he opened his own atelier, which employed around 30 people and which he ran with his brother Charles . Rampelberg was known for his colorful fabric designs that French fashion designers used in their collections. He received numerous awards for his designs.

Rampelberg earned his living with textile design, and he also painted, primarily watercolors and gouache . In 1945 Rampelberg exhibited his pictures in his studio for the first time. He found his motifs in his native France, but also in Italy and Spain. After 1985 he intensified his activities as a painter, and his paintings have been shown in solo exhibitions in Paris , Strasbourg , Brussels and Solingen . A critic wrote on the occasion of an exhibition in Souillac in 2001 : “Les tableaux de cet artiste, né dans les brumes du Nord, en pays flamand, rendent un hommage coloré aux pays du soleil, à la mer et à la lumière en général dans le style dépouillé , quelque peu géométrique de la peinture actuelle. ”(Eng. =“ The paintings of this artist, who was born in the fogs of the north, in Flanders, are a colorful homage to landscapes with sun, sea and light in general, in a style that is less geometric than current painting. ")
