Emilijan Stanew ( Bulgarian Емилиян Станев , actually Никола Стоянов Станев Nikola Stojanow Stanew ; born February 28, 1907 in Veliko Tarnovo ; † March 15, 1979 in Sofia ) was a Bulgarian writer .

Life

Stanev is one of the most prominent representatives of the middle Bulgarian generation of writers. He was born the son of a civil servant and briefly attended the Academy of Fine Arts. Stanew studied finance and credit at the University of National and World Economy . First literary publications appeared in 1931. His work characterizes Stanew as a philosophical and moral thinker. In addition to his socially critical and historical works, he wrote many books for children and young people, which are characterized by a deep understanding of nature, as well as fairy tales . Today he is one of the most important Bulgarian writers and is considered a master of short stories . He made his debut in 1933 with the work Lockender Flitter . Other works are On a silent evening (1947) and Der Pfirsichdieb (1948), these have been translated into many languages, e.g. B. French, Italian and German. For his work Ivan Kondarew (German: Hot Summer ), which was about the image of the September uprising in 1923, he received the Dimitrov Prize , the highest award in the country. His work Wolfsnächte includes ten animal and hunting stories that he wrote before and after the liberation of his country.

On the occasion of his 100th birthday and in recognition of his contribution to the world's literary and cultural heritage, UNESCO declared 2007 the Emilijan Stanew Year.
