The Temple of Azure Clouds ( Chinese  碧云寺 , Pinyin Bìyún Sì , English Temple of Azure Clouds ) is a Buddhist temple monastery in the eastern part of the Beijing West Mountains (Xīshān 西山) just outside the north gate of the Fragrance Mountain Park (Xiangshan Gongyuan 香山 公园) in district Haidian , a northwestern suburb of Beijing , China , about 20 km from the city center.

Names

Erich Haenisch calls the complex “Monastery of the Emerald Clouds”. In Manchurian it is called niowanggiyan tugingge juktehen ᠨᡳᠣᠸᠠᠩᡤᡳᠶᠠᠨ
ᡨᡠᡤᡳᠩᡤᡝ
ᠵᡠᠭᡨᡝᡥᡝᠨ

history

It was built in the 14th century, in 1331 during the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368), and was expanded in 1748 .

The temple has been on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China (5-203) since 2001 .
