Emmanuel Bob-Akitani

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Emmanuel Bob-Akitani (born July 18, 1930 in Aného , † May 16, 2011 in Lomé ) was a Togolese politician. Bob-Akitani was honorary president of the Union des Forces de Changement (UFC) party and was an opposition candidate in the 2003 and 2005 Togolese presidential elections.

Bob-Aktiani was a founding member of the UFC and its first vice president. When the UFC politician Gilchrist Olympio was not allowed to vote in the 2003 presidential election because he did not live in Togo, Bob-Akitani ran as a presidential candidate against the long-time dictator Gnassingbé Eyadéma . The election, accompanied by allegations of manipulation, was rated 57.78% in favor of Eyadéma, while Bob-Akitani, who lost 33.68% of the vote in the official result, declared the election victory. In the 2005 election following Eyadéma's death , Bob-Aktiani was a presidential candidate for an opposition alliance formed with the participation of the UFC. In the official result of the election, which was again accused of election fraud, Bob-Akitani was defeated by Faure Gnassingbé with 38.25% of the vote , who declared 60.15% of the votes for himself.

Bob-Akitani was named honorary president at a UFC party convention in July 2008.
