history

Evangelical Lutheran parish Weststadt

The Evangelical Lutheran parish Weststadt was founded in 1966. First, meetinghouses were built. On November 30, 1969, the first parish hall of the Evangelical-Lutheran parish Braunschweig-Weststadt was inaugurated on Lichtenberger Strasse, the "House of the Church".

On May 13, 1973, the second parish hall, the “House of Encounters” opened on Donaustraße. On October 9, 1975, the topping-out ceremony for the third Evangelical parish hall "Haus der Mitte", which opened in 1976, took place on Recknitzstrasse.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the Emmauskirche community center took place on November 14, 1978.

Construction of the Emmaus Church

On July 12, 1980 the foundation stone was laid for the Emmaus Church on Muldeweg. On March 13, 1983, the Scandinavian-style building with a brick facade was inaugurated by regional bishop Gerhard Müller ; on November 10th d. J. took place the inauguration of the church located in front of the sculpture Cross of Cologne sculptor Helmut Moos (* 1931).

In 1994 the organ , built by the master organ builder Rudolf Janke from Bovenden, was inaugurated, which with its traditionally historical prospect provides a lively contrast to the interior of the church.

Further development

On July 10, 2007, the last service of the Evangelical Lutheran Church took place in the “House of the Church”, which was sold. The subsequent use is carried out by a Baptist congregation . The “House of Encounter” was replaced on January 23, 2011 by a new building. The “Haus der Mitte” is used today by the “mit Uns Gemeinde”, an Evangelical Lutheran congregation for people with intellectual disabilities and their relatives.
