Emmerich Weissenberger

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Emmerich Weissenberger (* 1966 in Graz ) is an Austrian artist.

Weissenberger studied sculpture with Franz Graf and Gunter Damisch at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna . His art with drawings, paintings, installations and art actions has had a strong religious relationship for years, as shown by topics with taboo death, the awakening and the iconographic.

On Good Friday, April 2, 2010, he appeared as a crucifix with an art event on scaffolding at St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna, only wearing a loincloth and a crown of thorns . He had announced the action, which refers to sexual abuse in the Roman Catholic Church , on his homepage and thus triggered an action with the police and fire brigade, was arrested afterwards and will probably be charged with property damage.
