The ship was built in Stockholm in 1847. The owner of the Emmy was the trading house Joh. Ces. Godeffroy & Sohn under the management of the Hamburg businessman Johan Cesar Godeffroy . The ship was probably named after "Emily", the wife of Cesar Godeffroy.
In her day she was one of the largest ships in Joh. Ces's fleet of sailors. Godeffroy & Son.
The ship was used to transport emigrants from Hamburg to Australia and South America .
