Emmy Wood

Emmy wood (also Emmy Holts ; born October 10, jul. / 23. October  1902 greg. In Tallinn , Governorate of Estonia ; †  4. November 1923 in Spain ) was an Estonian ballet dancer .

Life

Emmy Holz took her first steps in the ballet studio of Sessy Smironina-Sevun and Eugenia Litvinova .

In 1918, along with Lilian Looring , Rahel Olbrei , Robert Rood and Sessy Smironina-Sevun, she was part of the first professional ballet troupe of the Estonia Theater and Opera House in the Estonian capital Tallinn. From 1918 until her untimely death in 1923 she was permanently engaged in the ensemble there.

Emmy Holz was one of the theater's first prima ballerinas . She performed primarily in operas and operettas as well as in dance scenes at concerts ( Camille Saint-Saëns ' The dying swan to the music of the cello solo from the Carnival of the Animals and Léon Minkus ' Oriental dance from La Bayadère ). She also became known in the role of Swanilda's friend in Léo Delibes ' ballet Coppélia , the first complete ballet performed in Estonia in September 1922.

Emmy Holz was murdered in Spain in November 1923 at the age of 22.
