Lilian Looring

Lilian Looring (actually Luise Looring ; born September 3 jul. / September 15,  1899 greg. In Tallinn ; †  May 2, 1963 ibid) was an Estonian ballet dancer .

Life and dance

Lilian Looring took her first ballet steps in Eugenia Litvinova's dance studio .

In 1918 Looring belonged to Emmy Holz , Rahel Olbrei , Robert Rood and Sessy Smironina-Sevun to the first professional ballet troupe of the Estonia Theater and Opera House in the Estonian capital Tallinn. Looring was one of the first Estonian prima ballerinas . She was seen in operas and operettas as well as in dance scenes at concerts and plays. On September 28, 1922, she danced alongside the famous Viktorina Kriger in the first ballet performed in Estonia, Léo Delibes ' Coppélia .

Until 1927 Looring was employed as a celebrated soloist in the Estonia with interruptions . From 1927 to 1931 she worked in various cabaret theaters and on small art stages throughout Europe, including in Paris , the Kristallpalast in Dresden , the Wintergarten in Nuremberg and the Trocadero in Hamburg . In 1930 Looring performed in Switzerland ( Locarno , Davos , Zurich ). In 1930 she went to Germany again, where she could be seen in the Deutsches Theater in Munich . In 1932, hit by the global economic crisis , she moved back to her Baltic homeland. From 1932 to 1940 she ran her own ballet studio in Tallinn.

With the Soviet occupation of Estonia, Lilian Looring was deported to Siberia in 1941 . She survived the transport and the time inside Russia . Only after Stalin's death was she able to return to her homeland in 1955.

In Estonia, despite influential supporters, she could no longer find a connection to the active ballet scene. Looring remained active as a teacher. She died in her hometown in 1963.
