More than 120 such vessels could be assigned to his hand. In his work, everyday scenes and mythological representations are roughly in balance. Namable myths with a recognizable plot, such as the deeds of Heracles or episodes from the Trojan War , are rather rare, whereas Nike , Eros , Sphinxes , sirens or motifs from the Dionysian circle often appear . In the everyday scenes, depictions from the area of life of women, advertising scenes, dances and barbarians predominate. There are no motifs that refer to aristocratic ideals such as symposia , hunting, athletes, chariots, riders and warriors. In contrast to most vase painters of the late black-figure style, the Emporion painter shows only a limited spectrum of pictorial themes, the composition of which is mostly not narrative. The Emporion painter shares some of his motifs with the Sappho painter , to whom he has close stylistic relationships, but the lack of car depictions in his work clearly sets him apart. In addition, he shows some similarities with various other late black-figure vase painters and also shows knowledge of red-figure iconography.
