Enchophyllum is a genus of humpback chirps of which 11 species are known. The species are almost all distributed in South America, most (nine) species occur in Brazil, four species live in Panama, one species also occurs in Mexico ( E. cruentatum ), and another species is from the Caribbean island of St. Vincent ( E. rileyi ).

The Enchophyllum cicadas are sometimes quite large and showy species. The pronotum usually has a slightly curved anterior process in front, which carries a ridge at the side. The basic color is black or brown, with three to five, white, yellow or red spots. The head is roughly square. The forewings are mostly opaque. The front legs are flat. The females are approx. 8 to 17 mm long, the males 7 to 13 mm.

The genus is closely related to the genera Membracis and Phyllotropis and also looks similar.

The species of the genus Enchophyllum occur mainly in tropical and subtropical biotopes, from sea level (on mangroves ) to an altitude of 1,000 m, they usually live in groups. The females lay their eggs on plant tissue and cover them with a waxy substance. Some species coexist with ants. E. lanceolatum is considered to be a pest on pigeon peas .
