Phyllotropis is a genus of humpback chirps of which six species are known so far. The genus has been found in the following countries: Bolivia, Brazil, Ecuador, Colombia, French Guiana, Peru and Suriname. Almost all species occur in Brazil, with the exception of P. tococaae , which is only known from Colombia. The most common is P. cingulata . The genus Phyllotropis has been separated from the genus Enchophyllum .

The animals are medium to large in size and often strikingly colored, black with light spots. Phyllotropis is similar to the genera Enchophyllum and Membracis . Like these, it has a flat, more or less leaf-shaped pronotum. Characteristic of Phyllotropis is a small lateral, lateral thickening in the pronotum, which is extended to the front below, directly above the head.

These humpback cicadas often come in groups and they are very often associated with ants. The females lay their eggs on the surface of the plants on which they plant sap sucking and then stay in the company of their larvae. If such groups of humpback cicadas are disturbed, the females flee without defending their offspring.
