The energy Burgenland AG is an Austrian energy service company, with corporate entry in July 2012 from the companies BEWAG and BEGAS arose. It is 51% owned by the Landesholding Burgenland GmbH, 49% is owned by Burgenland Holding AG. The head office is in Eisenstadt .

activity

Since October 1, 2012, BEWAG and BEGAS have been merged as Energie Burgenland. The company looks after around 200,000 electricity customer systems and 55,000 gas house connections. The three main pillars of Energie Burgenland are generation, networks / technology and sales / service.

The second wind initiative was started in May 2011 with two multi-megawatt wind turbines in Potzneusiedl. Energie Burgenland invested a total of around € 800 million in the expansion of wind energy. With these investments it was achieved that from 2013 as much electricity will be generated from wind energy in the state as is consumed in Burgenland during the year. In addition, around € 100 million went into expanding the network infrastructure.

Group of companies

Energie Burgenland announced in spring 2016 that it would partially merge its originally nine subsidiaries, so that there will only be five in the future. These structural changes are to be implemented by 2017. Such mergers have already taken place in the past, where it was reduced to nine companies by 2012. After the current merger, around 7 million euros should be saved annually by 2020.

As of October 1, 2016, there will be the following five subsidiaries in the Energie Burgenland Group:

Energie Burgenland Vertrieb GmbH & Co KG

The sale of electricity and natural gas as well as energy procurement and the subject of energy efficiency are located in this subsidiary.

Energie Burgenland Wärme und Service GmbH

Energie Burgenland Service GmbH supplies its customers with thermal energy (heat) from various technologies (natural gas, pellets, heat pumps, etc.). At the same time, it offers servicing, maintenance and operational management as well as billing for the energy used.

Energie Burgenland Windkraft GmbH

In the generation division, wind power, hydropower, biomass including biomass networks are bundled. In addition to the operation, further expansion and repowering of wind power plants, the subsidiary operates the Pinkafeld hydropower plant and biomass plants in a subsidiary, Energie Burgenland Windkraft GmbH.

Netz Burgenland GmbH

Netz Burgenland GmbH operates, builds and maintains the Burgenland electricity and gas network.

Energie Burgenland service and technology GmbH

This subsidiary mainly provides internal services for Energie Burgenland. In addition, technical services in the energy industry (e.g. for networks and wind power operators) are offered.

Renewable energy

According to its own statements, Energie Burgenland is an international pioneer in the growth market for renewable energy. Around EUR 400 million had been invested in expanding wind energy by 2012. Energie Burgenland has thus become Austria's largest wind power producer.

At the beginning of 2012, ten wind farms with an output of 273 MW produced around 500 million kWh of green electricity per year. Currently (as of September 2016) there are 224 wind turbines in 16 wind farms owned by Energie Burgenland Windkraft, which with a total output of 507 MW supply 233,400 Burgenland households with around 1 billion kWh of electricity per year.
