The energy industry manager (certified) is a professional training course related to the energy industry . It is aimed at employees in the energy sector and energy-intensive industry.

Areas of work and tasks

Energy industry managers are employed in companies in the energy industry or in companies in energy-intensive branches of industry. These include, for example, energy supply companies , network operators and district heating producers. Due to their qualifications, the energy industry managers are able to take on management tasks in their companies. Due to the content imparted in the advanced training, they have extensive knowledge of supply structures in the electricity industry, gas industry and district heating supply as well as in-depth knowledge of the areas of law relevant to energy supply companies. The planning of projects, the management and control up to the successful completion, are also tasks that are carried out by energy industry managers.

target group

The advanced training to become an energy manager is aimed at university graduates, energy specialists IHK , business economists IHK or business economists VWA who are employed in the energy industry or energy-intensive industries.

Training content

Training duration

The training lasts between 6 and 9 months and is usually offered by private providers in block form or evening form.

Exam admission requirements

For the written examination, the

  • a university degree or
  • a completed further education as a business economist IHK / business economist VWA or
  • a completed further education as an energy specialist IHK

proves.

For the optional oral university examination, the

  • a university degree or
  • a completed further education as a business economist IHK / business economist VWA or
  • a completed further training as an energy specialist IHK and

additionally proves the successful completion of the written part of the examination.

Examination and completion

The exam is divided into a written and an oral part. The written part of the examination usually lasts between 60 and 90 minutes for each examination area. Often an oral final examination, which is certified by both the training provider and a cooperating university, is offered as an option. The 30-minute exam consists of the presentation of a case study and a technical discussion.
