History and holdings

Energinet.dk was created through the merger of the electricity network operators Eltra, Elkraft System and Elkraft Transmission with the natural gas network operator Gastra. The merger took place on August 24, 2005 and took effect retrospectively on January 1, 2005. Energinet.dk is wholly owned by the Danish state and managed by the Danish Ministry of Energy.

Energinet.dk has the following subsidiaries and holdings (from 20%):

activities

Energinet.dk operates the transmission networks for gas and electricity in Denmark . This includes an 860 km long gas pipeline network through which around 8 billion cubic meters of natural gas flow annually (91 TWh in 2008). Energinet.dk has two network control centers , one for gas and one for electricity. The gas control center can serve as a replacement control center for electricity operations in an emergency , and vice versa.

The company itself operates the extra high voltage lines (400  kV ) in Denmark. The high-voltage network is via coupling transformers with the regional distribution network connected (132 and 150 kV), which is operated by the subsidiary Local Net.dk. The ENDK network is integrated into the European network via coupling points ; the ENDK control area on the German-Danish border is connected to the TenneT network. The HVDC Great Belt Power Link , a high voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission line , is operated by Energinet.dk. Energinet.dk is a co-partner of the interconnectors to Sweden ( Konti – Skan ), Norway ( Cross-Skagerrak ) and Germany ( Kontek ), via which the networks of Svenska kraftnät , Statnett and 50Hertz are connected. A submarine cable to the TenneT network in the Netherlands is planned. In 2008, 47 TWh were transmitted in the electricity transmission network.

Energinet is the only Danish company in the Association of European Transmission System Operators (ENTSO-E) and in the Association of European Transmission System Operators for Gas (ENTSOG).
