Engelnberg stairs
The Engelnberg stairs (also Engelnberger stairs ) is a listed outside staircase in the Wuppertal district of Elberfeld .

The staircase, built in 1910, leads up the Engelnberg with 72 steps and connects the high-level street Am Engelnberg with the Hagenauer Straße . The Engelnberg staircase got its name on December 12, 1905. The staircase is one of several staircases that open up the center of the Ostersbaum residential area on Engelnberg.
The staircase was declared a monument on May 12, 1992.
Art project - Ascending Scale
The stairs were part of the art project "7 stairs", which was designed by the Montag Foundation for Fine Arts in cooperation with the City of Wuppertal and the Regionale 2006 and with the support of the Ministry of Building and Transport in autumn 2006.
The Darmstadt resident Helga Griffiths transformed the staircase into a sound installation based on Bach's piano piece The Well-Tempered Clavier . The 24 chords were triggered by the movement of passers-by via sensors attached to the stairs and reflectors opposite . The associated loudspeakers were barely visible in the trees above.
