history

engels was founded in 2001 by publisher Joachim Berndt in Wuppertal, based on the model of the Cologne magazine choices . The predecessor was the “Cinema” magazine, which presented the programs of some art cinemas. When several cinemas were closed, the question of whether the magazine would continue to exist arose. Joachim Berndt decided to re-establish the company, which he named after the communist writer Friedrich Engels , who was born in Wuppertal . The column “engels tongues” presents excerpts of letters to Engels. The focus is on current film reporting. In addition, there are cultural articles from the fields of music, stage, dance, art, literature and alternative culture in Wuppertal and the surrounding area, occasionally from the entire Ruhr area . Since 2006 there has also been a monthly topic that - in conjunction with choices and trailers - deals with current socio-political issues. The editorial team is located at Berndt Media-Verlag in Bochum and is networked with choices and trailer , which means that articles are mutually adopted.
