Genre : Anisus
Type : Tightly coiled cochlea
Scientific name
Anisus calculiformis
( Sandberger , 1875)

The anisus calculiformis ( anisus calculiformis ) (formerly also often falsely under anisus semptemgyratus ) is a basommatophora (Basommatophora) from the family of planorbidae (Planorbidae).

features

The housing is very flat, disc-shaped and tightly wound. It measures 6 to 7 mm in diameter, is about 1 mm high and has 7.5 to 8 coils that increase slowly and regularly. The surface is finely striped and horn-brown. In the last turn, the handle is rounded at an obtuse angle on the upper side and evenly rounded on the underside. The mouth is oval and slightly crooked. In the case of dry traps, the mouth is closed by a chalky septum.

Way of life, occurrence and distribution

The species lives in ponds, pools and swamps and can withstand prolonged drying out. The species is particularly common in Eastern Europe. In the north the westernmost occurrence extends as far as Mecklenburg, in the south the westernmost distribution area extends to the Po Valley.

Similar species

The species forms up to 8 whorls and thus significantly more than all other aniseed species.

Danger

The species is endangered in Germany and is on the red list. It is also very rare and threatened in some Eastern European countries.

Systematics

The genus Anisus is divided into two sub-genera by some of the authors: Anisus (Anisus) Studer, 1820 and Anisus (Disculifer) C. Boettger, 1944. In this sub-genus, Anisus calculiformis is placed in the nominate sub-genus Anisus . The tightly coiled cuspidor worm used to be known as Anisus septemgyratus Rossmässler, 1835. When examining animals of the type locality (Etsch near Bozen), however, it turned out that these were identical to Anisus leucostoma . Anisus septemgyratus Rossmässler, 1835 is therefore a more recent synonym of Anisus leucostoma Millet, 1813. In the literature, however , the name Anisus septemgyratus was misinterpreted and applied to Anisus calculiformis (Sandberger, 1875); Anisus septemgyratus auct. is therefore to be referred to as anisus calculiformis (Sandberger, 1875).
