Anisus is a genus of the family of poppy snails (Planorbidae) from the suborder of the water pulmonate snails (Basommatophora). These are small forms with an almost planispirally rolled up casing.

features

The housings of the Anisus species are small (up to about 10 mm in width, up to 2 mm in height) and flat-disk-shaped, only the belly side is slightly deeper than the back side. The mouth is mostly more or less oblique to the axis of the winding, the windings only encompass each other moderately to slightly. They also gain moderately, and about 4 to 8 whorls are formed. Some species develop more or less clear edges on their first or last walks.

Way of life, occurrence and distribution

The animals live in swamps, ponds and also in temporarily drying waters. They live on plant matter and possibly also on detritus. The species of the genus are distributed in the Palearctic.
