Enigmosaurus ( gr . "Mysterious lizard") was a present from the Asia -derived theropod dinosaurs . Regarding the system , Enigmosaurus is assigned to the Therizinosauroidea . The only known species is Enigmosaurus mongoliensis .
Fossils of the lizard dinosaur , which lived about 91 to 72 million years ago , were found and described in Mongolia by the paleontologists Barsbold and Perle in 1983. Enigmosaurus should have reached a length of about seven meters . The weight is estimated at around 900 kilograms . Its appearance came close to that of its close relative Erlikosaurus . He had huge claws on his fingers, as was typical for therizinosaurids.
Presumably, the dinosaur ate plants and moved biped (two-legged).
Systematics
Barsbold originally assigned Enigmosaurus to its own family , the Enigmosauridae. In 1992, Currie assumed that Enigmosaurus must have been a Segnosauridae . Two years later, Russell and Dong assigned Enigmosaurus to the Therizinosauridae . According to Clark et al. Enigmosaurus is assigned to the Therizinosauroidea (2004).
