Enrico Onofri (born April 1, 1967 in Ravenna ) is an Italian violinist and conductor .

Enrico Onofri learned to play the violin in his hometown before moving to the Conservatory of Milan . After studying the classical violin, he switched to the baroque violin . During his studies, he worked in the Capella Reial de Catalunya by Jordi Savall as first violinist. Onofri also worked with the Concentus Musicus Wien , the “Concerto Italiano” and the “Ensemble Mosaiques”.

Since 1987 Onofri has become known as the soloist and first concertmaster of the Il Giardino Armonico ensemble . Since 2000 he has directed the "Ensemble Imaginarium" he founded. As a conductor he made a name for himself with other ensembles, including the “Academia Montis Regalis” and the Portuguese baroque orchestra “Divino Sospiro”, of which he has been chief conductor since 2005. The “Conservatorio Bellini” in Palermo appointed Onofri in 2000 as a professor for baroque violin. In 2011 he was invited as a visiting professor by the Historical Performance Practice Department of the Juilliard School in New York.

An extensive discography with well-known labels made him known worldwide, it includes more than 40 CDs and seven video or DVD film recordings, mainly with works by Antonio Vivaldi , including the highly acclaimed Viva Vivaldi with Cecilia Bartoli , but also early Baroque music from Italy and France, as well as a live recording of the Brandenburg Concerts by Johann Sebastian Bach.
