Enrique González Mántici

Enrique González Mántici (born November 4, 1912 in Sagua la Grande , Las Villas , † December 29, 1974 in Havana ) was a Cuban conductor, violinist and composer .

González had violin lessons with José Valls and then studied composition with Rafael Pastor and Emilio Grenet and conducting with Erich Kleiber . At the Moscow Conservatory he was a student of Nikolai Anosov , Leo Ginsburg and Alexander Gauk .

He became principal violinist of the Orquesta Sinfónica de La Habana , director of the Mil Diez radio orchestra and musical director of the Sociedad Pro-Arte Musica and the orchestra of the Ballet Nacional de Cuba and founded the Instituto Nacional de Música . In 1961 he became director of the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional . He later worked as a professor of orchestral conducting at the Escuela Nacional de Arte .

In the early 1960s he performed as a conductor in Eastern Europe, Latin America and China. In 1962 he was guest of honor at the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow and in 1964 he was a juror for violin at the Enescu Competition in Bucharest. On a trip through the Soviet Union and China in 1963, he conducted the Leningrad Philharmonic , the Moscow Radio Symphony Orchestra, orchestras in Armenia and Georgia and the Central Symphony Orchestra of Beijing. He accompanied musicians such as Dawid Oistrach , Leonid Kogan , Mstislaw Rostropowitsch , Evelio and Cecilio Tieles at concerts in Poland, the GDR, Romania, Hungary and Bulgaria .
