Entente Florale Germany
The nationwide competition Entente Florale “ Blooming Together” was a green and urban development competition for cities and municipalities in Germany. It should encourage people to upgrade the urban space with greenery and plants in a joint action by administration, politics, business and the citizens. The competition took place annually between 2001 and 2014.
The competition claimed to promote the positive effects of ecological and sustainable urban greening. It aimed to bring more nature into the city, to improve the living and working environment and at the same time to increase the quality of life for residents and the attractiveness for visitors.

Cities and municipalities with more than 3,000 inhabitants and districts with more than 15,000 inhabitants could apply.
Jury / Jury visit
The Entente Florale jury consisted of six to seven people with horticultural, urban and landscape planning, tourism and communal expertise and experience. In the competition year, the jury visited the participating cities and communities at the end of June / beginning of July. The city officials presented the jury with the potential for open and green spaces, and current projects in green urban development were presented. The time on site depended on the size and number of inhabitants of the respective municipality. The period of the assessment varied between four and eight hours. The jury summarized the results of the assessment in an expert report or in a visit protocol.

- Projects and concepts from the fields of nature and environmental protection, garden culture
- Presentation / overall impression
Awards and special prizes
Entente Florale awarded medals and certificates as well as special prizes. The evaluations took place on the basis of a point system. For the overall performance, Entente Florale awarded bronze, silver or gold medals and also honorable recognition .
For services in special sub-areas, special prizes were awarded by the following award givers:
- Special award from the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU): Nature Conservation in the City
- Special prize from the Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection (BMELV): For particularly successful garden or park design with plants typical of the location
- Special award from the Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Development (BMVBS): Green spaces that connect
- As well as special prizes from relevant organizations and associations
Award ceremony
The award ceremony took place in the ZDF television garden in Mainz. As part of this event, a city awarded gold was nominated as the German representative in the European Entente Florale competition.
