The ZVG logo is the "Green G".

history

Alliances of gardeners have a long tradition in Germany. After the Second World War, gardeners from the American, British and French zones met in Berlin on April 17, 1948 to found a general association for German horticulture. On August 12, 1948, the "Association of German Fruit, Vegetable and Horticulture" was constituted. In 1951 the name changed to Central Association of German Fruit, Vegetable and Horticulture. Today the professional representation is called the Gärtner Zentralverband Gartenbau eV (ZVG) and has its headquarters in Berlin.

Bodies

General meeting

It is the highest body of the Central Horticultural Association and takes place once a year as part of the German Horticultural Day. The general assembly sets the guidelines for the policy of the ZVG. It elects the President and the two Vice-Presidents, receives the audit reports, gives discharge and approves the contribution budget.

The general assembly sets up permanent working committees and decides on their composition and dissolution. The members of the Presidium, the delegates of the member organizations, the chairmen of the standing working committees and the representatives of the supporting members are represented at the general assembly (with an advisory vote).

Bureau

In the Presidium, the presidents of the regional horticultural associations and the chairmen of the federal professional associations discuss and define the guidelines for professional policy issues in horticulture.

The president and the two vice-presidents are elected by the general assembly for three years each. In order to guarantee the continuity of the work, one of the three top representatives is elected every year.

Board

The board is the smallest official body of the ZVG. The president, the two vice-presidents and the chairmen of the departments are represented in it. The board decides on cross-divisional issues and coordinates the work of all organizations and bodies of the ZVG in accordance with the statutes.

The Executive Board (GV) deliberates monthly. As a working body, it consists of the President, the two Vice-Presidents and the General Secretary of the ZVG. The General Assembly resolves all current political issues.

German flower fairy

A term of office of the Deutsche Blumenfee extends over a year until the next German Horticultural Day. The German Flower Fairy acts as a popular figure for flowers and greenery in public for the horticultural profession. After the liquidation of the CMA ( Centrale Marketing-Gesellschaft der deutschen Agrarwirtschaft mbH) in 2009, the office was in question, but the profession decided to keep it. In mid-2010, the Central Horticultural Association, together with the advertising committee of the Federal Association of Ornamental Plants (BVZ) and the Federal Association of Retail Gardeners (BVE), called on creative young women to apply for the office of "German Flower Fairy".
