The Johannes Erlemann kidnapping case was a German child abduction that took place in Cologne in 1981 .

On March 6, 1981, Johannes Erlemann, the 11-year-old son of the entrepreneur Jochem Erlemann , was kidnapped. At the time of the abduction, the father of the kidnapped was for fraud suspicion in custody .
The three kidnappers pulled the victim off his bike on the way home and put him in a van. The kidnappers locked the victim in a 1.50 meter wide, two meter long and 1.60 meter high shed in the Cologne city forest . On March 10, the family received a cassette tape that recorded the abductee's voice and a ransom note. The ransom demand initially amounted to 8 million DM. The lawyers who acted as negotiators, however, traded the kidnappers down to 3 million DM. The ransom could be raised within three days through donations from acquaintances of the Erlemann family. On March 12, 1981, an ad was placed in the Kölner Express , signaling that the ransom was ready. On March 20, 1981, the victim's mother was directed into a wooded area, where she threw the ransom in two canvas bags in a wooden box. This box had no bottom and stood above the Cologne Rand Canal on the right bank of the Rhine . Two accomplices took the money from below and went underground with a rubber dinghy.
After paying the ransom, the kidnappers released the child.
The three million mark ransom was never completely found. The leader of the kidnappers hidden DM 1,693,900 in two propane gas bottles . These were secured by the police, who assumed that these bottles were used for heating purposes. The gas bottles were therefore initially stored in the police headquarters. The kidnapper's attorney was told where this part of the booty was.
After a two-month investigation, the perpetrators and their wives were arrested on May 8, 1982. Those involved in the crime were sentenced to prison terms of between 10 years and 3 years for kidnapping or aiding and abduction.
