The decision training BEST - this stands for " BE job and ST udienorientierung" - is a two-day decision-making and goal-setting training for upper school students at general and vocational high schools in Baden-Württemberg .

history

In 2010, the state of Baden-Württemberg made around 1.5 million euros available for training the trainers and carrying out the training. Since then, the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs has supported the project with up to 70 teacher hours per school year for the management and organization of the BEST seminars. The then Minister Schick: “The aim is to offer up to 280 BEST seminars per school year, that is to say at least one seminar at every second general high school.” An expansion to the vocational high schools is planned. The BEST seminar has also been held at vocational high schools since 2012.

Goals and initiators

The BEST decision training is intended to help upper school students with their choice of study and career. At the same time as preparing for the Abitur, you need to inquire about study options, application deadlines and admission requirements. To facilitate students the choice of study and reduce the number of drop-outs, which offer the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts of Baden-Wuerttemberg and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports of Baden-Württemberg for students of the course level at general and vocational high schools, the two-day decision training BEST .

Conception

The two-day career and study orientation training BEST was conceived by experts from the University of Konstanz (who also developed an orientation test for the universities in the state) in cooperation with experienced advisors from schools, universities and employment agencies.

On the first day of the training, the students explore their interests and skills with the help of changing methods and forms of work. In an interval phase, they complete the orientation test, which, in addition to personal interests, also records individual skills and aligns them with possible courses of study. Participation in this test ("www.was-studiere-ich.de") has been a possible requirement for enrollment at a university in Baden-Württemberg since the 2011 winter semester . With a research task, the pupils get to know the most important reliable internet portals in a "guided tour".

On the second day of the training, the results of the orientation test are processed, open questions about study and career choices are answered and ways of making decisions are trained.

organization

BEST is organized by the Service Center for Study Information, Orientation and Advice (SIOB) in the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts Baden-Württemberg . The seminar is carried out at the respective school by a tandem consisting of a teacher and a career advisor from the Employment Agency.

Further orientation offers

In the earlier school phases, vocational orientation takes place in the Realschule as well as professional and study orientation at grammar schools . The BEST decision-making training, on the other hand, is only part of the upper secondary school level.
